Five years ago, Purvida Healthy Horse started a journey to revolutionize horse care – and now, we're celebrating some of the progress we've made along the way!
I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting over how the heck it has already been half a decade of running this business (?!), so I thought I would share the story with you all about how it came to be:
I’m Amanda, face behind the brand, creator of our natural grooming products, and the online voice for Purvida Healthy Horse. This is Finnegan, my trusty P.I.C., and the reason behind all of this. He was born 12 years ago and and he’s been mine for almost 7. From competing in the hunters, to making the switch to jumpers, bombing around fox hunting courses, and galloping down the beach, this guy has been there for almost every “first” of mine with his trademark ebullience. He is my best friend and will never fail to put a smile on your face..or let you know exactly how he feels about any given situation. I realized this a few days after I bought him and he immediately let me know that he absolutely despised all spray bottles and would not tolerate the application of any sort of grooming product.

At first, I was a bit frustrated at his behaviour, but then I dug a little deeper and took a look at the conventional products I had been using at the time, and after realizing MANY of the ingredients that went into them were straight-up toxic carcinogens, I started to think maybe Finn wasn’t just being a over-dramatic doorknob…maybe it was the ingredients burning his sensitive skin.
So I threw out all the products I had and began to test my hypothesis with a spray bottle filled with ONLY water…surprise, surprise about a week later, his reaction completely went away.
From there, I started research on how I could solve my grooming issues using gentle, natural ingredients that wouldn’t irritate his skin. I began creating my own, natural versions of conditioning sprays, and the idea for Purvida was born; A brand that combines my love for horses with a commitment to natural, sustainable, and safe grooming solutions that are gentle on your horse's skin and coat, while also being kind to the environment. I knew I needed preservatives and emulsifiers in order to create a truly effective natural product, so I got to work and teamed up with a group of experts to professionally formulate our first product, the one I had mixed up in the barn for Finnegan so many times, what is now the All-In-One Grooming Spray. At Purvida Healthy Horse, every ingredient that we use serves a purpose and our products are all made in an FDA-registered facility. We’re able to source high-quality, clinically proven ingredients, and provide a level of transparency that most brands just can’t match, because at the end of the day, you should be able to make informed decisions about your horse’s care and health. That's why I've made it my mission to be transparent with you, from showing you every step of our product testing process, to the behind the scenes of production and where/how our products are made.
Since we launched on May 4th 2018, we have:
- created 5 completely new, natural, and effective equine grooming products (with more on the way!)
- shared these products with over 2,000 amazing equestrians across the globe
- Partnered with over 25 incredible retail locations across North America
- Built a mobile shop out of a horse trailer and set up shop at horse shows across Canada and the United States
- Attended some of the biggest equestrian events in the world as a vendor (which blew my mind a little bit!)
and this is just the beginning…

I can’t believe this crazy dream of mine started almost 5 years ago, and i want to celebrate this milestone with you guys!
